Wishful Shrinking?

It’s understandable that diet companies would want to incorporate celebrities in their marketing plans. People feel like they already "know" famous people and we often follow along on their weight loss or in some cases weight gain journey.

Now it's time to talk about the double edged sword of using a celebrity in these companies' ads. When a company uses an unknown but successful dieter the public will never know if that person gained all  the weight back or gasp! even more weight back. When you are dealing with a celebrity people will notice if they gain any weight at all. This happened with Kristy Alley when she lost all her weight on Jenny Craig and by the next year she had gained all her weight and more back. Check out the link below to see how that turned out.

Many claim that a so called parade of celebrites is just a method of distraction. If a past celebrity on the plan gains their weight back then we won't notice because the newest celebrity will capture our interest. I for one would and do notice. We have to be consistant and make a life style change to lose and keep weight off and this just goes to show us that even celebrites are people too.
Thanks for Reading, I've enjoyed taking this class with everyone.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians and How they claim to keep their weight down!

My voyage into reality stars that endorse weight loss plans would not be complete unless I mentioned the Kardashians. Kim Kardashian rose to fame when a ...let's just say homemade video was released on the internet. The next year not only her but her whole family starred in their own reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians. Kim and her sisters also became paid spokespersons for Quick Trim.

Quick Trim claims that it will jump start your metabolism and burn calories all day long without you having to do anything else! Wow! I just have to buy their cleanse and pill and shakes and pills..... and I can have the body of Kim Kardashian! Just imagine if I spent all that money on a membership to a gym and eating right!
Kim and Khole will tell you all about how they lost weight in the infomercial above, and if they say it works, then it must! Right? Insert eye roll.

I can tell you that a few things have become fat. The Kardashians and Quick Trim's wallets.Kim now charges as much as $25,000 to simply mention and link to a brand or company in a tweet.Quick Trim launched in October 2009 and  spawned $45 million in sales in 2010. Kim commands a personal appearance fee of $100,000 to $250,000 per event, and can even demand up to $1 million internationally. Quick Trim charges an average price of $60.00 for a two week cleanse.

I can honestly say that I have never tried the product and I am going to take the stand that if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

Did anyone say Trimspa Baby? Well not for awhile....

TrimSpa in trouble after Smith's death!

Seems that sometimes using a celebrity spokesperson can backfire on a company. Anna Nicole Smith rose to fame as the "Guess" model and seemed to fade away. The E! started airing The Anna Nicole show and we meet the new heavier train wreck that most people remember. I wish I could say that I did not watch the show but I try to save my lies for more important things!

Then the TrimSpa commercials started and we see the new thin Anna Nicole and it did not seem to matter to the masses that she could barely string the words  "TrimSpa Baby" together. To see one of the commercials just follow the link I provided.

Right after Smith came on board, TrimSpa sales ballooned 172 percent to $43 million in 2004 from close to $16 million in the year earlier. So what's the problem you may ask? When you mention TrimSpa, the image that came to mind was Anna Nicole Smith. Now when you think of TrimSpa you think of Anna Nicole dying and many people were not able to separate the two leaving TrimSpa scrambling to restage and relauch their brand. Maybe they shouldn't have put all their pills in one basket?
